Springs are utilized in almost all aspects of life. They are in our doors, our clock, watches, cars, cameras,
everywhere. Springs are overlooked and we take them for granted. Their size, diameter, strength, and
flexibility are all paramount and make each unique and purpose driven. Off Road racing utilizes some
of the most purpose driven, best engineered springs in the world and are used here to their full potential
in the harshest conditions.

Most Vehicles use single rate coils, this means that for the entire spring the spring constant is the same. Loads affect the srping evenly and it compresses uniformly. These springs are found on most passenger cars and an example is shown as the black spring on the right of the picture.

A multi rate spring has more then one spring constant and compresses first by the softer area, then the
stiffer firmer area compresses. The soft area gives a smooth ride over small bumps while the stiffer
section is used when there is a very large hit. These are the springs that off road racers and trophy trucks
use. They use multiple multi rate springs which surround a coil over and are able to absorb the biggest

The Physics of this. To determine what rate spring to use, they have to find how much the vehicle
weighs total and at all for corners, also what speeds at which they expect to hit these whoops to
