Meet the Cannon Lady!
Meet Jennifer Smith. Unlike other women in the United States, Jennifer makes a living by constantly getting fired from her job. She has been fired over 3,000 times in 11 different countries. Following in her father and brother's footsteps as a human cannon ball, Jennifer travels across the globe to different fairs and events, flying high in the sky after being shot out of a cannon.

The crowd cheers as Jennifer is preparing to be launched out of a 27-foot long cannon. As the cannon approaches the set upward angle of 45 degrees, Jennifer slips into the cannon, getting into position to be launched towards the net. The crowd counts down, and Jennifer is shot from the cannon 60 feet into the air at a speed of 37-42 mph, demonstrating a perfect flip in the air. After seconds, she safely lands in a net that is placed 125 ft away from the cannon.
The key to keeping up with this dangerous job is ensuring her own safety after being launched from the cannon. Her cannon must be very precise in order for her to be able to be shot and land safely. Her father, former cannonball, has developed the perfect cannons to shoot a human cannon ball. These professional cannons must not misfire, and launch with the same force each and every time.
Before the launch, it is vital that she precisely calculate how far away from the cannon she must place the net to prevent any fatal injuries, or even death. She can determine this distance away from the cannon by using one of the kinematic equations. After determining where she will land, she can then accurately place the net to catch her fall. By doing so, Jennifer is able to successfully land safely into the net without any injuries, ready to be launched once again.

If only I could have a job like this woman. Although my kinematics skills aren't the best I think I'd survive to receive my pension when I'm older.
ReplyDeleteDoes she actually do the calculations or does she have someone else do it for her?
ReplyDeleteI actually used to watch her videos, she's crazy. I also feel that if my life was on the line like hers, my kinematics answers would be more precise.
ReplyDeleteThis is the dream job... but what if the calculations were wrong. Has that ever happened?
ReplyDeleteDoes she account for a percent error before getting in the cannon? If the calculations or the setup was wrong she could be seriously injured.
